From time to time, when life gets just a bit too hectic, we long for simpler times. Whether we grew up on a farm, in the suburbs or in apartment high in the sky in the big, big city, there’s something calming about a pastoral, natural setting that recalls easier days. Rarely do we have time to lie in the grass, stare up at the sky and watch the clouds pass, much less stop and smell the roses in our daily lives, but there’s no reason we can’t at least strive for the appearance of the simple life through gorgeous rural furnishings like the rustic beds in today’s roundup. Apple pie, pigtails and lemonade stand not included. ![]() DIY Reclaimed Doors Headboard via Style-Files

With open layouts in demand for contemporary homes, one of the most popular space combinations is the living room and dining space. Homeowners often like to combine the two social spaces to make gatherings a more organic affair, where guests can wander freely between the two areas, enjoying good food and maximum comfort in one seamless space.

There’s something endlessly comforting about a great reading chair. The sense that others before us have sat in that very space, embarking on literary adventures of their own and perhaps nodding off just like we’re wont to do ourselves lends a sense of continuity to an otherwise simple — modern, even — piece of furniture. Today’s roundup of cool accent chairs gives a nod to the days of yore, with a few mid-century modern inspired pieces and some easy transitional chairs as well. Whether they’re adding a pop of color to a room or simply providing a moment of respite every now and then, their charm begs us to sit a spell, maybe just for a chapter or two, and relax. ![]() Mrs Godfrey Chair by Jonathan Adler

Those who seek out reclaimed materials, recycled objects and/or repurposed pieces of furniture to stock their homes with the stuff of life are quick to explain why when asked, and their answers are usually simple logic: Why make something new unneccesarily when what you need has already been created and could just use a little TLC? Reclaimed wood in particular allows “new” furniture buyers to enjoy the beauty and majesty of incredibly old and gorgeous wood without having to sacrifice a living tree and all the benefits it bestows on the ecosystem. Aside from that, most pieces of furniture made from repurposed or recycled source materials are fantastic conversation pieces with histories all their own. In today’s image gallery, we present ten pieces ranging from traditional and almost Edison-esque to sleek and modern. And who knows what each item’s next incarnation might be? ![]() Repurposed Door Desk by Manoteca
