Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion pictures / Paris fashion week / Street style It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that Miu Miu’s pointed, printed collars were the fuel that stoked the removable collar trend fire. Hanneli proves as usual that clashing prints really can work wonders.

Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures On Fashionising.com’s Pinterest account we have a board titled Fashion Photography As Art. It’s there because I believe that two types of photo shoots dominate the fashion pictorial landscape: the literal and the artistic. There is blur between them, but I separate the two by what they’re attempting to communicate – literal photo shoots impart styling advice, artistic photo shoots impart a feeling. And impart a feeling Treats magazine‘s (treatsmagazine.com) Ritual pictorial certainly does. But it’s not a feeling that we’re accustomed to. Whereas most ‘fashion as art’ pictorials are keen to leave us dreaming of a particular lifestyle, Ritual instead plays to the dark and the mysterious and the gothic and the erotic. Its strengths lie not in its ability to make us envy a life less ordinary, but in its abilities to create a narrative and to draw us in. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Shoe trends / Shoes / Women's shoes It’s one of many ‘numbers’ you never want to share with the world. Age. Lovers. Shoes. It’s considered socially unacceptable to discuss many such numbers, and the latter in is included amongst them as a girl can never have enough shoes in her closet by to publicise a number is to appear gauche. Each season, we see styles change, heels evolve and the colour palette go wild. However, this summer, the perfect ‘in fashion’ shoes are not defined by the length of the heel or the type of shoe, but more about how each pair is fabricated and embellished. Shoes that are making a girl’s heart pump this season are already buzzing on the windowsills of various stores. But we’ve taken the stress off your next laborious shoe-shopping trip by narrowing down eight shoe styles that are a creating a name for themselves this spring / summer 2012. If you’re a woman, you have no reasons to not continue reading after the jump. Chances are, you’ll love us a fraction more by the time you reach the bottom of this post.

Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog The freedom to express oneself is often cited as one of the very foundations of personal style. And modern society pretty much lets you do just that, save for the odd offensive t-shirt. But it wasn’t always the case. Not only would today’s freedoms have once seen you arrested, but what is now so conservative that it’s considered foppish caused women to faint. We’re talking of a mere hat. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures There’s a problem facing autumn / fall and 2013′s fashions, at least there is to my mind. Take a look at the closing collections of this year and the opening collections of the next one and you’ll see one theme dominate: androgynous fashion. While you can follow that link for further insight, what’s ahead is not the sapphic and questionable-gender androgyny of year’s past, but instead a softer fusion between men’s and womenswear. Soft, but still not feminine. Soft, but still not androgyny of Helmut Newton appeal. This change of the silhouette but not of the gender should come as no surprise to those who have followed spring’s fashions – loose tailoring has transitioned to women’s fashion this season. But do we actually like it?

Posted in Fashion / Australian fashion week / Clothing & Accessories / Fashion blog / Fashion collections What would you suggest to someone starting a new fashion label, given the hardships currently facing both the industry and economy? Perhaps you’d suggest they be clever, careful and innovative. See if they can explore a page of the fashion books, one that everyone is acquainted with, but that has so far been left uncomprehended. When Sydney designers, Beth and Tess Macgraw, imagined a high-fashion label on the terrace of their SoHo apartment in Manhattan, the aforementioned concerns hovered over their dream. However, two years later, this New York dream became a tangible reality, when the sisters designed their first collection and saw eponymous ‘macgraw’ come to life. Fashion labels are created everyday, however. So the question is, what makes macgraw different? What makes them worthy of your wardrobe? For a start they offer up a model for Australia’s fashion industry to save itself, designing and making their clothes in the country (something that is sadly rare). Equally as important, though, they offer up an inimitable and aesthetically sharp collection sure to make them an international hit. Firmly in love with their first collection, Fashionising.com sat down with the label’s two designers and asked them to lead us into the world of ‘macgraw’. Article continues.
